‘Just for Me’ Backpacks

The Dinah Branch along with their children pack and provide 200 backpacks to Toronto Social Service agencies  to distribute to children either living in transitional or temporary residences after fleeing from abusive home situations with their mothers or they are families in need. The recipient children are given something of their own which which brings them comfort in a time of crisis and upheaval. The backpacks are made for boys and girls ages 4-12.

NCJWC-TS uses both donated and purchased items such as backpacks, books, toys, school supplies, hats and gloves knitted by Council members or outside volunteers as well as non-perishable nutritious snacks. We receive many donations from Simcha baskets which makes the project even more powerful when children who are 12 or 13 have school supplies as their center pieces at their Bar/Bat Mitzvah, knowing they will be helping other children in need.

Backpacks are prepared in July to distribute in August prior to the start of the school year.
